When is St. Swithin's Day?
- 15-Jul:According to folklore, the weather observed on St. Swithin's Day dictates the weather for the next 40 days. July 15 finds believers checking the weather on this day and planning accordingly. If St. Swithin's Day brings rainfall, the following 40 days will have rainfall. If, however, July 15 brings fair weather, the subsequent 40 days will also see fair weather. Legend says St. Swithin requested and received burial in the churchyard. Cathedral overseers brought his body inside the church and reburied it there on July 15, 971. A great storm blew up that day. The first evidence for the weather prophecy appears in text at Emmanuel College from a 13th- or 14th-century manuscript. Source: Britannica.com
