Riegel also sold his candies at street fairs, but they weren't as popular as he'd hoped. He wanted to produce something different. He began experimenting, and finally developed a soft candy that became wildly popular. His candies were unlike anything else: it was more firm and chewier than other soft candies. Riegel fashioned his gummy bears after dancing bears he saw at street fairs. This gave him the idea for the name of his sweet treats. He named them "Dancing Bears."
