- Horse:Flicka galloped into the hearts of children with the publication of Mary O'Hara's 1941 "My Friend Flicka." The novel's main character becomes enthralled by a wild black mustang which he corrals and tries to tame. Flicka starred in a short-lived but well-remembered TV series in 1955-56. It unfortunately ran for only 39 episodes. The reimagined movie in 2006 featured a female lead character who befriends the horse she calls Flicka.
