According to U.S. history, which is the "date which will live in infamy?"

  • Dec. 7, 1941:Pearl Harbor is near Honolulu, Hawaii. This U.S. naval base was the target of a devastating attack by Japanese forces. The surprise attack happened on Dec. 7, 1941. The Japanese assault on Pearl Harbor damaged or destroyed almost 20 American naval vessels, and over 300 airplanes. More than 2,400 Americans perished in the attack (civilian dead count ran as high as 1,000.) The following day, Dec. 8, President Roosevelt spoke to Congress, describing the attack on Pearl Harbor as a "day which will live in infamy." He asked Congress to declare war on Japan, and the U.S. entered WWII. Source: History.com
