- Yellow:It was 1968 and the Beatles needed to fulfill a three-picture contract with United Artists. They weren't terribly interested in doing so and wanted to expend as little energy as possible on the effort. What they ended up doing was sailing away in a yellow submarine to the sea of green. They did this on the movie screen, of course, in an animated caper that didn't require much from them. "Yellow Submarine" was intended to be a forgettable film thrown together for contractual reasons. It ended up becoming a cult classic, a tribute to the age of flower power that's endured the decades since its premiere. Rumor has it that Queen Elizabeth II is quite fond of the film.
