Which country's national emblem is the beaver?
- Canada:Like all countries, Canada has numerous national emblems. The beaver became an official emblem and part of the Canadian identity long before the National Symbol of Canada Act passed through Parliament in 1975. In the late 1600s and into the early 1700s, fur hats were the fashion of the day. This made beaver pelts a high-demand commodity. The fur trade became a major part of the development of North America. English and French fur traders sold beaver pelts from the New World in Europe at 20 times the original purchase price. Because beaver pelts were so profitable and played such a role in the development of Canada, many Canadians felt it only fitting that the buck-toothed animal receive official standing.
