Which child star later served as U.S. Ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia?
- Shirley Temple:Most Americans know Shirley Temple as the adorable child actor with curly hair who sang and tap-danced her way to Hollywood stardom in the 1930s. When her career failed to make the transition from child star to adult actor, Temple dedicated herself to public service. She became immersed in Republican politics, eventually serving four Republican presidents in diplomatic roles for more than two decades. In 1969, Temple was appointed a delegate to the United Nations General Assembly by President Richard M. Nixon. Five years later, she served as ambassador to Ghana from 1974 to 1976, and ambassador to Czechoslovakia from 1989 to 1992.
