[Answer] What was the original name of Memorial Day?

We have looked all around the web to find the most relevant answer to your query:

What was the original name of Memorial Day?

  • Decoration Day:We like hot dogs and days off just as much as everyone else but as you sit in your lawn chair by the pool or soak up some waves, it's good to remember what it is we are celebrating. After the Civil War, General John A. Logan called for a holiday to commemorate fallen soldiers. He wanted the holiday to be observed every May 30th but due to Uniform Monday (a holiday we did not get off), the holiday was moved to the last Monday of May to make sure everyone gets a nice long weekend. Originally, to honor those who had passed, soldiers would decorate graves of their fallen comrades with flowers, flags, and wreaths which is where the name Decoration Day came from. Memorial Day, wouldn't get its new name until 1971. Source: Time Magazine
