- The Kelly:The Kelly Bag is named after the Hollywood starlet and Princess of Monaco, Grace Kelly. Thanks to the costume designer Edith Head, Grace Kelly first fell in love with the bag on the set of Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch a Thief. Known for her Hollywood glamour and elegance, the star quickly popularized the trapezoid-shaped bag in the 1950s after she was photographed holding the handbag to cover her baby bump from the paparazzi. That photograph was featured in Life magazine, and the handbag instantly became known as the Kelly bag. It was not, however, formally renamed The Kelly until 1977.
