Hungry Jack's is the Australian equivalent of which American fast food franchise?
- Burger King:When Burger King decided to expand its operations into Australia, it found that its business name was already trademarked by a food shop in Adelaide, South Australia. As a result, Burger King provided Jack Cowin, the Australian franchisee, with a list of possible alternative names derived from pre-existing trademarks already registered by Burger King that could be used to name the Australian restaurants. Cowin selected the name "Hungry Jack," but added an apostrophe to form the new name "Hungry Jack's." On April 18, 1971, the first Burger King franchise in Australia was established under the new company name Hungry Jack's.
