We have looked all around the web to find the most relevant answer to your query:

Which popular game was banned in New York from 1942 to 1976?

  • Pinball:It may be hard to believe, but not long ago, pinball was seen as a menace to society and banned in many American cities. Churches and school boards argued that it contributed to juvenile delinquency, crime, and a decline in morality. Mayor LaGuardia of New York City issued a ban on pinball machines in 1942, and spearheaded raids throughout the city where machines were smashed to pieces with sledgehammers. Other cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia and Salt Lake City also enforced similar bans. Pinball was driven underground until the ban was finally overturned in the 1970s.
