The lead guitarist of which band has a Ph.D. in Astrophysics?

  • Queen:Brian May is best known as the lead guitarist of the rock band Queen. May was an astrophysics student when he joined Freddie Mercury and Roger Taylor to form Queen in 1970, but dropped his doctorate as the rock band became successful. May ultimately finished his degree in astrophysics nearly three decades after putting academia on hold. He earned his PhD in astrophysics from Imperial College London in 2007, and served as a team collaborator with NASA's New Horizons Pluto mission. Brian May is ranked No. 26 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time."
