- Alan Alexander:Alan Alexander Milne was born in London in 1882. He was educated at Westminster School in London before heading for college. After attending Trinity College at the University of Cambridge, he wrote for the magazines "Punch" and "Granta." Going by the pen name A.A. Milne, he began a successful career as a playwright, poet, and novelist in the 1920s. His two collections of children's poetry were well received but it was his two books of stories about the bear "Winnie-the-Pooh" and his animal friends that were the crowning glory of Milne's career.
