After attending Trinity College at the University of Cambridge, he wrote for the magazines "Punch" and "Granta." Going by the pen name A.A. Milne, he began a successful career as a playwright, poet, and novelist in the 1920s. His two collections of children's poetry were well received but it was his two books of stories about the bear "Winnie-the-Pooh" and his animal friends that were the crowning glory of Milne's career.
